about

Native Sun grows with increasing urgency in the face of the inexorable climate crisis, growing civil division, and overlapping public health emergencies. Colombian-American songwriter Danny Gomez (vox/guitar) battles the impotence of our time when it seems, to use the words of Voltaire, common sense is not so common. Nico Espinosa (drums) and Justin Barry (bass) round out the resonant rhythms creating a space of controlled chaos at high-energy live shows, as well as detailed and layered recordings. Raw and honest, the New York band delivers solace and catharsis to all audiences—singing about grief, disillusionment with our time, and lovingly documenting the lives of the outcasts and misfits. Native Sun channels the grit of punk with the tenor of the times when rock ‘n' roll could change something.

Their latest EP Off With Our Heads, produced by Walter Schreifels (Quicksand, Gorilla Biscuits, Rival Schools) is out now via Grand Jury Music (Twin Peaks, TOLEDO, Carl Barât) and Rough Trade Publishing.

Praise for Native Sun

“Native Sun want to rattle you to your core. The Brooklyn four-piece have been shredding through the borough for a few years now, delivering ferocious melodies that both nod to classic New York rock iconography, and decimate it with brutal cognizance of the canon's historic lack of inclusivity.”

- The FADER

“Rising through the New York music scene—alongside acts like Sunflower Bean and Geese—Native Sun’s latest track arrives as a venture in “reimagining the sound of white Americana”, and is a slightly twisted take on a familiar sound. Starring direct lyricism, the track builds into a catchy chorus amongst a consistently beating instrumental and sporadic hail of guitar.”

- So Young Magazine

“...full of defiant attitude, thoughtfully crafted twists and turns, and an urgency that compels you to get up and do something.”

- DIY Mag on ‘Always Different, Always the Same’

If more bands made unrelenting rock ‘n roll like New York City’s Native Sun, no one would be mentioning the genre as one being on its last legs.
